Baseball Season's Over ... Let the Indictments Begin
First of all, what do we -- the common folk -- know about Valerie Plame? Story about the case HERE.
Who?
That's right, Valerie Plame. Joseph Wilson's wife. You know, Joseph Wilson, the guy that went to Africa and said he found no evidence of Sadaam seeking yellow-cake uranium? You know, the guy that said there will be no mushroom cloud? You know that guy?
So who's Valerie Plame? Well, she's the CIA agent that recommended that Joe (her husband) be sent on that mission to Africa. Why did she do that? Because they (the CIA) wanted to find evidence to disprove the President. Why? Because the CIA was mad at the White House. Why? I don't know. Maybe because the White House was casting all this negative publicity on the agency for giving the President bad intel. Maybe because they didn't want to be re-aligned. I don't really know.
So ... Why do we care about this? Seems like inter executive office bickering. Well, we care about this because of two things: 1) an editorial that appeared in the New York Times written by Joe Wilson that claimed there was no uranium, Iraq had no designs on nuclear weapons and that basically the Administration made it up. This sparked the Times editorial board to ask for a special investigation. Enter Fitzgerald who's first name I can't remember. The second reason we care about this is because of Robert Novak. Robert Novak wrote a story that appeared first I think in his Chicago paper. It outed Valerie Plame as the agent that sent Joe Wilson to Africa, I think is what it said. Either way it said Valerie Plame, CIA Agent. Which, so the left says, she was undercover at the time and this statement endangered her and her career and her coworkers.
A little too James Bond for you? Yeah, I don't really get it either.
But this Fitzgerald guy wants to get it. He wants to get it all. And he's called several people to testify before the grand jury to talk about it. One of these people went to jail for 45 days rather than testify. She, Judith Miller, reporter NY Times, eventually did testify. And she testified that Lewis Libby (Cheney's chief of staff) told her lots about Valerie, and that he (Libby) heard it from Dick Cheney. Again, I find myself asking why I care about this. A game of telephone for grown-ups? He told me and she told him but he said she didn't know but I know... But I'll get to my opinion later.
But the thing is, Miller never wrote a story. Nothing. She wrote nothing about her conversations with Libby and she isn't even the one that outed Plame. Which is interesting, because the whole investigation is supposedly about the article that outed Plame and "Who outed Plame" and you know who did? Robert Novak. The one reporter that Fitzgerald didn't call to testify. Makes no sense. And what does Novak say now? He says "I can't comment about the impending investigation."
Cute.
So Judith Miller, a reporter from Time and one other reporter get called to testify. One reporter, the Time Magazine reporter, says Karl Rove was his source. [Enter ecstatic left-wing types] So Karl Rove gets called to testify. Okay. Now this is where I stopped paying attention.
So where are we today? Well the Grand Jury is over and the indictments are about to come down. What is an indictment? Well, Webster's describes it as: a formal written statement framed by a prosecuting authority and found by a jury (as a grand jury) charging a person with an offense. So that actually sounds kind of bad.
Interesting ... The right keeps saying indictments mean nothing. That definition doesn't sound like nothing.
So what we have here is a problem. And the media is liking it. Typically, anything the media likes I'm against. Seems kind of like a witch hunt to me. And I wouldn't be surprised if impeachment wasn't mentioned more than half a dozen times. So there ya have it. The left might have just managed to get rid of Karl Rove and maybe his less hated but still disliked friend, Scooter L. Libby. Heck, they are hoping to go all the way hope to the President and VP on this, so they are having a field day.
The thing is, what institutions name keeps coming up in all of this? The New York Times. Which we all know is a completely unbiased paper. Riiiigghhht. But why isn't anyone picking up on this? Why are we spending all of this time talking about whether or not Valerie Plame was outed as a CIA agent? Robert Novak outed her, not Judith Miller. This whole thing makes no sense to me. It's all a political game and I hope everyone that watches CNN coverage knows that. And Judith Miller went to jail for 45 days rather than testify. Didn't anyone think to ask WHY? It's not to protect Libby. When that Time Magazine reporter said he'd go to jail, Time stood up and said no, we'll release his notes. Did the New York Time does that? I don't think so.
It's all confusing. And the story I link to at the top says that this whole thing is being fabricated by the CIA (I think in conjunction with NYT) to oust the President. The agency has been really under fire with this president and the WMD stuff, but I'm really confused. If what the Cliff Kincaid says is true, then Libby and Rove should have been giving information to the Grand Jury about the CIA role anyway, not waiting until they are indicted and forced to stand trial.
The big question here: why does the American public care about this? If the whole thing is about the Plame Affair than I don't get it. If it's about the CIA leaking info to the Times, than I don't get it. How is that any different than what's been going on in Washington for years? If that's really all it is ... It's a witch hunt. That's all. And it's scary in its vociferousness.
But you know what I find myself thinking? I can't wait till this administration is over. I'm hoping that after another election and a new president, some of this heavy division will evaporate away. Bush and company have been a lightning rod for hatred and I'm pretty sick of it. And I kind of feel like a lot of other people are feeling that way too. I feel terrible that their administration has been marked by such turmoil. But with terrorism and new world politics, I don't think there was a whole lot to be done. This is the way it is. I'm just hoping the future isn't so divided.
Don't get me wrong and I don't think Tom Delay, Karl Rove, Lewis Libby, Dick Cheney, or President Bush are guilty of what they are being accused of. I think the left has finally found something they can crucify them on, and they aren't going to let go until they draw blood. The right did the same thing with Clinton. I didn't agree with Clinton's politics or his moral beliefs (what morals) but I don't think that the impeachment was handled properly. Maybe this will teach everyone restraint. It doesn't appear to have though. There is now a vast left-wing conspiracy Hillary, are you going to do anything to stop it? Having gone through it yourself?
