Grady will hold a conversation with you.  He's been doing it for a number of weeks now, but he's gotten very good at it.  You say something, then he coos at you, then you say something back, and so on and so on.  He laughs once it gets going ... because it's just so fun that we are talking.

He blows bubbles now.  And follows toys with his eyes and blinks at noises and turns his head towards them.  He bats at the toys on his activity mat, and holds his head up for prolonged periods of time (while I'm holding him, not on his tummy).

He's a sweetie, who's growing like a weed.

We went out to dinner with a friend last night who has another friend who had twins 9 months or so ago.  He advised our friend to NEVER have children.  Ever.  That it was the worst thing ever and it destroyed your life.  Our friend asked if this was true.  Is it really that bad?

To which Lewis and I said, well if you had two of them at once, it could be, we supposed.

But Grady is a peach.  He fusses and cries and wants to be held and all that baby stuff.  But we're on a sleep schedule I can live with and he's a fairly content baby now that I can figure out what to do with him.

But I did admit ... the first two weeks ... are pretty rough.  But you get over it.  And my friend asks, what's so hard about it?

Well ... adjusting to no sleep, and not knowing what to do.  Your confidence level is in the toilet, you're unsure, you're scared, you're new at everything, and what's worse a baby is screaming at you and looking at you like ... "you're supposed to help me why aren't you doing what I want!  Can't you tell what I want!  Do it now!!"

But then ... you breath.  And you're baby starts gaining weight.  And is more alert.  And the feeding thing works itself out.  And you throw out the stupid baby books who tell you you're doing everything wrong because, clearly, you are not.  He's growing isn't he?

And you just start winging it.

I'm sorry for the gentleman with the twins, who hates his life.  But I'm even more sorry for his wife.  What her situation must be!  And I hope it gets better for them.

Having children is not easy, is not for the faint of heart, and is not all rainbows and butterflies and hugs and kisses.

But right now Grady is laying on the floor laughing at his activity mat.  And it's the greatest sound in the world.  And worth everything else.  :)
